Whenever you travel to a new place, one of the things you may want to know what grocery and convenience stores you can expect to find to pick up those essentials or even carry out a big shop for the vacation home.

Here is a quick summary of some of the popular American Supermarkets you can expect to find and are open till late if not 24 hours.

Target is a huge general merchandise retailer in America. It is committed to providing a one-stop shopping experience for visitors delivering a wide range of brands and outstanding value of products with its Expect More. Pay Less® brand promise.  SuperTargets, on the other hand, are considerably larger than Targets and with in-house bakeries, barristers and delis.

Wal-Mart is on the other hand the leading discount retailer in the world and home to America. The company started out as a small chain of stores in rural towns and now it’s the largest company in the world. It offers a variety of merchandise and services at everyday low prices such as groceries, electronics, clothing, shoes, souvenirs, food etc. Some of their stores provide a grocery store and automotive repair shop for customers. They have numerous branches in Orlando.

Dollar Store is an incredibly cheap discount supermarket with prices reaching $1 or less! (plus tax). For all you Brits, think of this as very similar to the Poundland store in the UK.  Dollar tree is useful buying your basics whilst on vacation or if you are on a tight budget. The store sells a range of everyday merchandise including household products, health and beauty supplies, party supplies, office and school stationary toys and much more. Here you can also purchase a range of different branded snacks and drinks and seasonal stock. There are several dollar tree stores that can be found in Orlando.

Publix has great selection of merchandise, with a superb deli and bakery with one of the best selection of wines in the area. Although the prices are not that best (or cheapest) compared to say Target or Wal-Mart, they tend to have more higher brand selection.

The Buffalo Chicken Tenders subs and the ever-present “Buy One, Get One Free” deals are just some of the famous features of Publix. They also have a very good customer service which is one of the reasons why customers keep on going back again and again. 

If you’re looking for fresh meat, seafood, and other food products, Whole Foods Market is the place to consider. It has everything you need, from fresh produce meat and seafood to a large grocery section and includes a vast section of bulk grains and nuts. 

They also have a wide variety of prepared foods and bakery products as well as full-service coffee and juices. For wine lovers, they offer a large selection of wine and beer paired perfectly with some amazing cheeses imported from other parts of the world.

There is also a Whole Body department where you can ask for assistance or consultation regarding vitamins, supplements, sports nutrition and body care with the highest quality standards. It’s more than just a grocery store but it’s generally more experience! You can find these stores on the corner of Sand Lake Road and Turkey Lake Road, off Interstate 4 (I-4, exit 74A) and just minutes away from all of your favorite Orlando attractions.

Trader Joe’s, although a more expensive store than Publix, this supermarket offers a large selection of quality foods at very good prices!

Trader Joe’s provides a wide collection of organic products, healthy food choices and unique goods that you are unlikely to find at other supermarkets such as Walmart and Publix. It further accommodates for many dietary requirements by stocking foods suitable for vegan, vegetarian, Kosher and gluten free diets.

There is currently only one Trader Joe’s store in Orlando, located on Sand Lake Road in the area Dr Philips.

Orlando Flea Markets offer many bargains and unusual items to take home. It’s a nice way to spend some free time while in Orlando. Below are some of the flea markets within Orlando.

The Main Gate Flea Market is a great destination for bargain hunters and it’s just situated near Disney on Highway US-192. The market is near an Orange Gift Store and merchants sell from 400 booths which are housed in an air-conditioned building, a plus factor for shoppers to have a fun and comfortable shopping experience. You can get a variety of goods including delicious ethnic food specialties. But the best part is that they issue a discount book to save you a few dollars. The market is open seven days a week.

If you are prepared to travel a bit further out of Kissimmee, you can check the Osceola Flea & Farmers Market located between Kissimmee and St. Cloud. There you’ll find fresh products as well as 900 booths selling Disney souvenirs and everything else you can imagine. In addition to that is a garage sale section where people sell household items that they no longer need.

Another Kissimmee area flea market is the Visitors Flea Market. This flea market is just minutes away from Disney World, Universal Studios, and Sea World. Here you’ll find a wide variety of souvenir items and other things you need such as Disney souvenirs, Florida T-shirts, jewelry, watches, electronics, shoes, gifts, toys, crafts, housewares, clothes, cosmetics, perfumes, health products, luggage, handbags, sunglasses and much more. But what’s best about this market is the very low priced items on offer. You can save typically from 45% to 75% compared to general shopping centers.

Central Florida Farmers Market is a flea market located in Central Orlando area at the Central Florida Fairgrounds. This outdoor market has approximately 300 dealers which offer a selection of fresh produce, antiques, collectibles, books, arts & crafts, both new and used merchandise. Gates are open Saturday & Sunday from 6am-4pm. Hours can vary slightly from weekend to weekend, and there are announcements made in the event of any changes.

There are several pharmacies available in Orlando, the two most common known are CVS and Walgreens which are typically open 24 hours a day.

CVS pharmacy offers a wide range of products including medical supplies with over the counter prescriptions, skin care and cosmetics, greeting cards and convenience foods. It also provides film and photo services including passport photos, printing on canvases, photo books and printing film. You can find many CVS stores throughout Orlando at well-known locations such as on the international drive and at the famous Florida shopping mall.

Similarly, Walgreens pharmacy also provide a range of merchandise including personal care, household, baby and toys, Medicines, daily vitamins, seasonal and more. They also have a wide selection on organic foods and natural beauty supplements. Other services provided include refilling prescriptions and a healthcare clinic. There are over 40 Walgreen pharmacies in Orlando.
